Detailed review

If you’re a veteran of the sports betting scene, the name Star Sports may sound somewhat familiar. Way back in 1999, they were launched as Star Racing, a betting service that was dedicated solely to horse racing. The name was changed in 2009 to reflect the fact they were branching out into a lot of different sports.

You could place your bets by telephone or in a physical Star Sports location, but it wasn’t until 2018 that they opened their first setting site. Because of this, they’re in the unique position of being an established company with a new website option. Does the site give you the best place to bet on your favourite sports? Let’s find out.

Website Design And Layout

Let’s take a look at the betting site itself first. You can see that the overall theme of the site is simplicity. The main colours are blue and white, and there’s no flashy graphics or anything getting in the way of what you want to do.

The site’s well laid out, with matches that are about to start highlighted for those that need it. That means you can get into the action right away. All the sports they cover are listed down the left hand side, so you can quickly and easily pick out the sport that you want to bet on when you visit. On the right hand side you’ll see your betting slip, with all the bets that you currently have in play on it.

The simple design is so welcome in an industry that favours flashy visuals and attention grabbing designs. Sometimes it’s too much and you need something a bit more laid back, like this. Some may feel it looks a little outdated, so this will depend on your own personal tastes.

As a mobile user, you have the option of downloading an app that works in much the same way as the site itself. It’s available on Android and iOS, so you should have access to it should you want to take it on the go. Even if you don’t want to download the app, you shouldn’t have a problem accessing the site on mobile browsers.

All in all, the site has an excellent design that’s simple and well thought out. It’s perfect for those just starting out, or those who just want to find what they’re looking for without the hassle.

Sports Markets On Offer

Star Sports were well known for their horse racing options back in the early 2000’s, but they’ve expanded since. What can they offer to you now?

There’s a huge range of sports on offer, as you’ll see when you check out the betting website. Horse racing is a given, as is football for matches all around the world. You can find most of the usual suspects here, including rugby, tennis, basketball, and more.

There’s more niche sports on offer too, so you can bet on your favourite sport even if it isn’t a bigger option. There’s Gaelic football, darts, table tennis, and so on. You’ll be sure to find any kind of sport that you want to bet on here.

What’s interesting is that there’s some non sports related markets here too. For example, you can bet on politics or TV should you so choose. If there’s a big election or TV special coming up, you may want to place a bet here on it.

Considering what Star Sports came from, it’s interesting to see just how many sports they have on offer right now. It’s worth going to the website and checking out the full list, as you’ll see that there’s going to be something that you’ll like.

Betting Markets

There’s a good range of sports on offer, but what about the markets themselves? Everyone likes to bet in a slightly different way, so can you bet in your preferred style here at Star Sports?

There’s a good range of markets available, such as outright markets, specials, and popular bets like over/under and BTTS. There’s also a good range of Asian bets available, such as Asian handicaps, goals and so on. However, there’s no card or corner bets available, something that’s readily available on many other betting sites.

There’s also no custom bet builder, which is a shame as many like to be able to put their bets together this way when they’re on the site. As we were looking through the bets on offer, it was clear there is no live streaming option. This is something some betters want, as they like being able to see the sport they’re betting on directly in their browser. For others though it’s not as big a deal, as they can watch that match on the TV if they want to see it. Whether that bothers you is up to you.

The range of markets is good, but certainly could be better. As the site is so new compared to others, it may be that newer features just haven’t been implemented yet. Perhaps in the future we’ll see the markets expanded to give you more features.

Odds On Offer

Are you going to get good odds when you bet with Star Sports? It’s clear that they can stand up to any of the bigger sportsbook sites on the market, with excellent odds on offer to you. You can especially find good odds on football across all their markets, as well as in horse racing. Compared to other markets out there, you’ll get a good return on your bets here.

While they do offer good odds, you won’t find enhanced odds that you would find with some of the bigger bookies out there. This will be a letdown for experienced betters who are always on the lookout for the best price.

Welcome Offer

All good sports betting sites will give you a welcome offer if you sign up for their services. Is this the same for Star Sports, and what can you expect from them?

Star Sports do very much offer something to their new customers, but what they offer changes out very regularly. If you want to see what they’re offering right now, you can check out the website to see what they have.

It’s not just new customer offers that they have. If you’re an existing customer, there’s lots of offers you can claim if you so choose. Right now for example, you can get your money back as bet if your horse is pipped to the post at Royal Ascot. You’ll get up to £100 back if you choose to take up the offer.

As the bonuses change out so often it’s hard to say if they’re as good as others out there. If you’re willing to bide your time though, you can set up your account as soon as you see a good bonus pop up. As an existing customer, you can take advantage of other good offers too, so it’s well worth sticking with them once you are a member.

Payment Options

Ok, so you’re ready to sign up and claim your free bonus, as well as make your first bet. To do that, you’ll need to make your first deposit. How much will you need to deposit, and how can you do so?

Right now, the site are only offering three different payment methods for deposits and withdrawals. These are MasterCard, Visa and Maestro. These are all banking cards, so to work with Star Sports you’re going to need to share your banking data with them. This seems very unnecessary, when there’s so many online payment options, like PayPal and Neteller, out there. There is good encryption on the site, so you should know your data is safe. However, it would be good to have more payment options allowed.

When you go to withdraw cash, you’ll see you’ll need to withdraw to the same banking method you used to deposit cash. That’s fairly standard with most betting sites, so you’ll be used to this. Most withdrawals will take 2 to 5 business days, which is a little slow. Again, if they offered eWallet options, this would be a lot quicker.

Again, the site is fairly new, so eWallet options may be coming in a future update. At the moment though, it’s a shame that you only have the option of using bank cards to deposit and withdraw with on the site.

Customer Service

Got a question about the Star Sports site? Want to ask something before you sign up? Maybe you’re already a member and you need some help. Whatever the problem is, the Star Sports customer service team are there to help.

You’ll see that they pride themselves on their customer support. There are three ways of getting in touch with them, should you need to. There’s the email address that you can send queries to whenever you need to. This is best if you have a question that doesn’t need an immediate answer. However, you’ll still find that you’ll get a speedy reply when you get in touch this way.

The next way to contact the team is via their phone line. This is great if you want to talk to someone right away, and find it easier to explain your issue verbally. The team will be able to pick up quickly and help you put the issue right.

The last, and often the best option, is their live chat. This is directly on the site, so you don’t even need to leave to get help. They’re open 24/7 too, so no matter what time you need them you can get help and get back to betting right away.

The team are friendly and knowledgeable, so you’ll get an answer to your question as soon as possible. Many existing customers say they get great service here, and that’s why they stick with Star Sports. It does show that they do care about their customers, which is good to see.

Conclusion

So, should you sign up with Star Sports? With so many other betting sites out there, what makes them the best one to use?

It’s clear they’ve grown since their horse racing days, with a wide range of sports available to bet on. You can bet on all the usual popular sports, like football, basketball and golf among others. You’ll also niche sports available to you, like table tennis and even eSports. Star Sports are keeping up with what their customers want to see in the market, making them competitive.

Another compelling reason to sign up is the good odds they offer. Their odds stack up against all the big names in online betting, making them very tempting to sign up with. The odds are best on football and horse racing, making them a good option if you’re into either of those sports.

The customer service is some of the best in the business, with you having three different options for getting in touch once you need them. You can get answers almost right away, so you can continue playing again.

The simple website design makes getting around and finding what you need a breeze. It’s certainly welcome if you usually find betting websites too flashy or cluttered. If you like to play on mobile, then you’ll see that you can download the app onto Android and iOS, allowing you to take the site with you.

There are some drawbacks to the site that you need to be aware of. The fact that there’s no other payment options other than banking cards is a concern, especially when it comes to data privacy. If you’re happy to use your cards that won’t be a problem, but if you wanted to pay with eWallet options then you’re going to be out of luck here.

The website design is considered to be outdated by some, and you may not like the layout of it. However, this does very much depend on you and your tastes.
