The Grand National is one of the biggest annual horse racing events held at Aintree Racecourse. The 2025 edition runs from the 3^rd to the 5^th April with the hugely anticipated Grand National race concluding the event on the Saturday. Bookmakers’ odds for the Grand National race are available all year round but they do change depending on the horses’ performances in other top races in the run up to this event.

Current 2025 Grand National Favourites

• I Am Maximus

As is quite often the case, the winner of the previous year’s race is usually one of the favourites and this year is no exception with I Am Maximus a firm favourite to win. The odds are currently sitting on 9/1 at Bet365, Betfred and BoyleSports after winning last year, but I Am Maximus has not had a good recent run of form with their last 2 races ending in a pull up and 8^th position respectively. His trainer Willie Mullins did however saddle 10 winners at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

• Intense Raffles

Intense Raffles is another Grand National favourite with odds currently at 7/1 at Bet365 and BoyleSports after he won the Irish Grand National 2024. Trainer Thomas Gibney helped Intense Raffles achieve a 2^nd place finish at the Bobbyjo Chase which puts the horse in good stead in the run up to the Grand National.

• Stumptown

With odds currently at 8/1 on Betfred and BoyleSports, Stumptown is in great form prior to the Grand National. This horse trained by Gavin Cromwell came in 1^st position in two Punchestown races and also came 1^st at the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. 8 year old Stumptown has shown great promise in recent races.

• Iroko

Iroko is a favourite Irish contender for this year’s Grand National since his win in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival 2 years ago and shortly after a 3^rd place finish in the Sefton Hurdle at Aintree. He then took on the Mildmay Chase at Aintree the following year and came 2^nd. His most recent race came at Kelso in the Bet365 Chase where another 2^nd place finish offered a strong performance before the Grand National. Iroko’s odds are currently 8/1 at Bet365 and 7/1 at both Betfred and BoyleSports.

Trainers to Look Out For

In horse racing, it isn't just the horse’s form and results you need to examine but the trainers too. It requires a lot of skill to ensure a horse peaks at the right time for Aintree and these trainers are the ones to watch at the Grand National.

As mentioned above, Willie Mullins’ 2^nd and most recent win at the Grand National was only last year with I Am Maximus taking the crown. Irish trainer Gordon Elliott has won the Grand National 3 times with impressive back to back wins in 2018 and 19 with Tiger Roll and a 2^nd place finish last year. Henry de Bromhead has won the Grand National once in 2021 and came 3^rd in 2024.
