Can McIlroy win the PGA Championship?
Rory McIlroy’s recent form has been the talk of the golfing world, and as a result, it’s safe to say that he’s the current favourite to win the PGA Championship. However, he’s got a lot of competition still, and as a result, many people are wondering if he’ll have it in him to pull off yet another big win this season. So, can Rory McIlroy really win the PGA Championship 2025, too - or will he be bested by one of his competitors?
Can Rory McIlroy Win the PGA Championship As Well?
Let’s be honest - Rory McIlroy’s form is on fire, having won the Masters last month. However, with the champ himself admitting that he now feels under a lot less pressure after pulling off his career Masters win at long last, this begs the question: will his form begin to slip now he’s not holding himself to such an exceptionally high standard?
Well, it’s hard to say. Still, at the moment, Rory McIlroy remains the betting site's favourite to win the PGA Championship, with Bet365 and BetVictor offering odds of 9/2 (5.5) and Ladbrokes coming in close at 4/1 (5.0). Still, he’s far from the confident champ, and Scottie Scheffler is very close on his tail. In fact, with both Bet365 and Ladbrokes offering him to win at comparable odds to McIlroy, while BetVictor is close by with odds of 5/1 (6.0). Given this, we can say with a good degree of certainty that the bookies haven’t pegged McIlroy for a confident winner.
And, of course, Scottie Scheffler isn’t his only competition. Indeed, Bryson DeChambeau is also looking pretty strong with odds of around 8/1 (9.00) - definitely less than McIlroy and Scheffler, but far from outside the realm of possibility. And that’s before we think about the tens of other players taking part in the PGA Championship, too; indeed, while we can assume that the winner will be one of our aforementioned three, this isn’t a definite, and surprise wins happen all the time in the sporting world.
Does McIlroy Have It In Him For Another Win?
Although his recent form is incredibly impressive, some consideration does need to be given to Rory McIlroy’s self professed lack of pressure. Now, this could go either way on the big day; the lack of pressure could allow him to focus all of his energy on the ball, making it easier to successfully pull off a swing. However, it could alternatively do the opposite, and without the pressure to perform, who knows if McIlroy will still be giving 110% for the PGA Championship?

With his performances over the past few weeks in mind, it’s safe to say that Rory McIlroy has firmly set himself as the favourite to win the PGA Championship - however, he’s not the only strong contender by far, and Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau also pose pretty strong competition.
So who knows - will McIlroy bring home yet another gold, or will first go to a surprise champion this time around? Chances are he’s in with a very good chance, but if his form slips for even a single ball, it might be that Scottie Scheffler or even Bryson DeChambeau could pull the win out from underneath him.
