Can Rangers Challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership? – Latest Odds
When people talk about the Scottish Premiership Title race, ordinarily there are usually two names that immediately spring to mind. Yes, we very nearly saw an upset last season as it literally went down to the wire, with Hearts narrowly missing out on the title, but ultimately, it’s either Rangers or Celtic who are in the running. This season is unlikely to be an exception.
The Scottish Prem is always an exciting affair, regardless of the fact that it is virtually always dominated by just two teams. In fact, for most people, that’s what makes it most exciting. Unless you’re a Rangers or a Celtic fan, it’s always exciting when a team such as Hearts nearly causes an upset, just like last season.
Despite this however, many expect Celtic to once again retain their title, though bitter rivals Rangers will certainly have something to say about that.
So, can Rangers challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership Title? Here’s a look at the latest odds, and what the bookies think.
Tight at the Top
We may be early on in the season thus far, but things are already looking pretty tight at the top of the table.
As of this writing, it is last season’s winners Celtic, who are top of the table with 21 points. Martin O’Neill’s men are just two points clear of Rangers after 8 games, with many people predicting that we’re looking at a two-horse race this season.
Hearts, however, are still more than in with a shout at the moment. They sit in 3rd place on 16 points, and considering they almost pulled off the upset of the century a few months ago, an SPL title for them wouldn’t be out of the question either.
So far, we’ve seen the Old Firm rivals constantly leap frogging one another and it really is too close to call at the moment. Whether that will still be the case come Spring, well that remains to be seen.
Rangers Have the Momentum
Although it was The Hoops who clinched the title last season, many, including Martin O’Neill, believe that it is Rangers who have an advantage, and the momentum at the moment.
Derek McInnes’ side are unbeaten in six consecutive games in the league. In fact, they’ve picked up six wins on the bounce, including a latest 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock on Saturday. Celtic followed up with a 2-0 victory over Motherwell a day later, with a win that took them to the top of the league, though O’Neill says his rivals have an advantage, after a shocking start to the season.
Celtic have a number of Europa league games over the next several weeks, and the Hoops manager believes that gives his rivals an advantage.
Rangers Latest Odds
With Rangers now pulling off the ultimate comeback after a shocking start to the season, many believe they could actually nab the title this time and dethrone Celtic.
Currently, Celtic are still favourites, but not by much. Bet365 and Betfred are both currently offering Celtic odds of 8/11 for the title. Rangers, however, are not far behind as Betfred have them at 11/10, whilst Bet365 will give you 6/5 odds.
Right now, Celtic have only dropped points to one team in the league this season, and that one team is Rangers. That, coupled with those mid-week Europa League matches, could prove pivotal come the end of the season.
